Why Do We Require ID / Account Verification for Metal Pay?

Metal Pay requires account verification—including a government-issued ID and, SSN—before you can access certain features. Below is a clear explanation of why we do this, what it involves, and how your data is protected.

Why is Verification Required?

1. Legal & Regulatory Compliance
   To operate legally, we must follow laws and regulations such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML). These rules are designed to prevent misuse of financial services—such as fraud, money laundering, or funding illicit activities. Without verifying identity, we can’t satisfy those obligations. 

2. Platform & User Safety
   Verification helps protect all users by ensuring individuals are who they say they are. It reduces the risk of account takeover, identity theft, or fake accounts. It also helps us respond more effectively if suspicious or fraudulent activity occurs. 

3. Access to Full Features
   Many advanced features (e.g., larger transaction limits, buying/selling assets, linking financial accounts or cards) require verified identity. Verification allows these capabilities to unlock safely. Without it, some services are restricted.

What the Verification Requires

• A valid government-issued photo ID (passport, driver’s license, or national identity card). 

• Certain regions require a Social Security Number (SSN) or its local equivalent. For example, customers in the US, Australia, and New Zealand must provide either an SSN, TFN (Tax File Number), or IRD Number, respectively.

• Verification always includes a selfie photo, and may also involve a live selfie or biometric check to confirm that the person presenting the ID matches the one shown in the document.
