This article will explain which tax form may apply if you live outside the United States.
Living outside the United States does not automatically mean you should complete Form W-8BEN.
The appropriate tax form is based on your U.S. tax status, not simply where you currently live.
For example, a U.S. citizen living outside the United States is generally still considered a U.S. person for federal tax purposes and would generally complete Form W-9 rather than Form W-8BEN.
If you are considered a foreign person for U.S. tax purposes, you may generally be asked to complete Form W-8BEN.
You should also update your tax information if your circumstances change, including changes to your:
- Address
- Tax residency
- U.S. tax status
- Other relevant tax information
Note: Metal Pay cannot determine your individual tax status or provide tax advice. If you are unsure whether you are considered a U.S. or foreign person for tax purposes, please consult a qualified tax professional.
