This article explains how to locate and access your available tax documents in the Metal Pay app. When you open the app, look for a red banner displayed at the top of the home screen with the message, “Confirm your Tax Information.” This notification indicates that action is required before you can access your tax documents.
To access your tax documents:
- Open the tax confirmation flow.
On the home screen, tap the Confirm your tax information banner.
- Read the introduction.
Review the notice, then tap Confirm Tax Information. The screen displays a January 1, 2027 deadline and states that sending funds will be restricted if confirmation is not completed.
- Review your personal information.
Check your Name, SSN/TIN, and Address.
- If everything is correct, tap Certify Information.
- If something is incorrect, tap I need to make a change.
- For the U.S. screen: review and certify your tax status.
Read the statements about your Social Security number, U.S. person status, and backup withholding.- As instructed on the screen, uncheck the backup withholding box if you are subject to backup withholding. Tap Get Help if needed.
- Read the certification, electronic signature consent, and paperless delivery agreement.
- Select the certification checkbox if you can truthfully agree, then tap Agree.
- To postpone, tap Do It later.
- For the U.S. screen: review and certify your tax status.
- For the Australia/New Zealand screen: review the declaration.
Read the statements covering beneficial ownership, non-U.S. person status, the income covered by the form, authorization to share it with withholding agents, and the commitment to submit a new form within 30 days if a certification becomes incorrect. Scroll down to continue reviewing the form.
You must certify your W-8 information every three years and your W-9 information every four years. You must also recertify whenever any relevant information changes, such as your address, name, tax classification, or other identifying details. If a Form 1099-DA is available for you, you will receive an email notification. These tax forms are generally made available in February.
How often do I need to certify my W-8 or W-9?
Metal Pay requires customers to periodically review and certify their tax information:
- W-8: Every 3 years.
- W-9: Every 4 years.
- Information changes: You should update your tax information whenever relevant information changes, such as your address or tax status.
